Stay weird, stay different

February 26, 2015 — 5 Comments

After the Oscars this year, someone sent me a video they thought I should watch… It was the speech by writer Graham Moore who won for he best adapted screenplay, the Imitation Game. I did, and I cried, and I so agree with him; Stay weird, stay different!

Your uniqueness unleashed is what this world truly requires.

So many of us know that we’re different and yet we often try to hide that from the world. We don’t want to be labelled or diagnosed as “not normal”? We don’t want to be put in the box with the weird and wacky people. Then again…what  is “normal”?

Do you know what the word “normal” means? Normal; conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected. Do you recognize yourself in that description?

Let me tell you what the original meaning of the word “weird” is…

Weird; Of Spirit, faith and destiny.

Is that more you? What if weird is our natural state?

Check out the courage in this TedX talk by Rosie King, How Autism Freed Me to Be Myself. She has an inspiring willingness to be all of her no matter what anyone may label her as. No one puts her in a box!

What if today is the day to celebrate the truly weird people on this planet? People like…you.

What if the weird people are the ones changing the world? Right now.

Stay weird.

And that film Imitation Game is the best film I have seen for long – so much comes up in this story that might have happened – most of it -anyhow it’s a fantastic film that makes you think.
