Hacking This Reality

August 29, 2016 — 2 Comments

You may have heard the term ‘hacking’ come up recently. Whether it’s computer-hacking, bio-hacking, life-hacking, it seems to be around in a lot of conversations.

So, what is hacking?…

I heard one of my favorite descriptions as I watched the TED talk below with teenager Logan LaPlante, as he described hackers as “innovators – people who challenge and change the systems to make them work different and to make them work better.”

Have you ever wanted to ‘hack’ your life? Hack this reality? Find a way to just make it work better?

This reality basically tells us that if we grow up, go to school, find a job and get married, then we’ll be happy. Yet nothing in this reality is about creating, supporting and choosing that happiness.

We’re often so focused on everything we are doing in life, and looking to that to make it better. What if it’s less about doing and more about being?

As Logan mentions in his talk, all kids get asked ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ And us adults expect an answer like ‘a doctor’, ‘a chemist’ or some other job. But what if life wasn’t about doing, what if it’s more about being? And about being happy?

Watch the video below as Logan talks about how to be happy and healthy and how “having the hacker mindset can change the world”.

Most kids truly are just asking to be happy, healthy, not bullied and loved for who they are. What if that were the priority of this reality?

What can you BE, choose, do and create to hack this reality and change the systems into what you know is possible?

I recently had a google hangout with a brilliant teenager from Delhi, India about many of the topics kids and teenagers are looking at today – from leadership, to happiness, to bullying, to how to be you no matter what is going on around you.

You can watch the replay of our talk below for more tools and inspiration for knowing it IS possible to be different and to hack this reality!

What if you didn’t have to be at the effect of this reality anymore? What if you could now choose to affect this reality and change it completely? What else could possible in your life if you truly chose to be you?

Thank you for YOU and for being willing to have something different!

Until next time my friends,

Dain

    YES!!!
I remembered when I took my daughter out of school, and it was an awesome alternative school system. However, it wasn’t working for her! She spent 4-5 months unwinding and simply doing what she wanted, with one chore. She had to feed the animals in the evening – we had a horse rescue. We found an unschooled, homeschool group in Boulder that was inline with her needs and my desire for her to still be involved in Waldorf. I loved that decision 12 years ago and to date, am happy I made that choice! My daughter, almost 24, is creative, innovative, happy and thinks out of the box, asks questions and can relate to and have indepth conversations with just about anyone. She is smart, compassionate, funny, speaks up and makes a difference in the lives she touches.
I am a proud mama and she is a dear friend!
